Our pledge
We want NISC to be a friendly, safe and welcoming community for everyone, regardless of age, gender, background, religion, caste, ethnicity, disability, appearance, college, field of study or level of experience.
Expected behaviour
- Be respectful and kind, especially to beginners and newcomers.
- Ask questions freely, and answer others’ questions patiently.
- Give constructive feedback, and accept it gracefully.
- Give credit for other people’s work and ideas.
- Respect people’s time, privacy and boundaries.
- Follow the instructions of event organisers and venue rules.
Unacceptable behaviour
- Harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation, in person or online.
- Discriminatory jokes, language or behaviour of any kind.
- Unwanted contact, attention or messages after being asked to stop.
- Sharing someone’s personal information or photos without consent.
- Spam, scams, or promoting unrelated paid services in NISC spaces.
- Using technical skills to access, damage or test systems without permission.
Online spaces
The same standards apply in NISC WhatsApp groups, social media, and any online meeting. Keep conversations relevant, avoid forwarding unverified information, and move long personal conversations to private messages with consent.
Events and venues
Treat venues, equipment and hosts with care. Arrive on time where possible, and follow organisers’ instructions for everyone’s safety.
Projects, competitions and honesty
Only present work you actually contributed to. When you use someone else’s code, design or idea, credit them. In competitions and hackathons, follow the rules set by the organisers.
Privacy and photos
Photos may be taken at NISC events for the archive and gallery. If you prefer not to be photographed, tell the organisers, and we will respect that. Never share photos of other participants in a way that could embarrass or harm them.
Reporting a concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaks this Code, please tell a member of the NISC team as soon as you can. Reports are handled confidentially and with care.
You can report in person to any NISC team member at an event, or privately through the contact form. Reports are passed to the Community Lead, who handles them together with the team. If a report involves a team member, that person is not involved in handling it.
Enforcement
Depending on what happened, the team may give a warning, ask a person to leave an event or group, or remove them from NISC activities. The team will act fairly and listen to everyone involved.
Scope and updates
This Code applies to all NISC activities, online and offline, and to everyone taking part: members, team, speakers, volunteers and guests. It may be updated as the community grows; the date at the top shows the latest version.
