Our story

How NISC began, why it was created, who started it, and how it grew into the community it is today.

The beginning

How it started

NISC officially started on 18 November 2023 in Nepalgunj, Banke, with a simple idea: IT students in Nepalgunj should have a common platform for learning, networking, collaboration and opportunities, instead of learning alone. It began as an online group where students could connect, share resources and discuss opportunities, and that group quickly grew to around 291 members.

That group became the Nepalgunj IT Students Community: a free, student-led IT community for Nepalgunj and the wider western Nepal region.

The reason

Why it was created

Before NISC, IT students in Nepalgunj were mostly connected through separate college and personal networks. There were few chances to meet IT students from other colleges, share resources, take part in technical activities and learn from one another. NISC was created to bridge that gap: a place where students learn together, help each other and grow with confidence.

The people

Who started it

NISC was founded by Sushant Budha and Bharat Rawal. From the start they shared the work: Sushant focused on community building and coordination, while Bharat handled the technical and development side.

As the community grew, more students stepped in. Today the core team is Sushant Budha and Bharat Rawal (Admins), Dinesh Sharma (Tech Lead), Shristy Soni (Community Lead), Sushil Rawot (Content / Design Lead), Nischal Koirala (Operations / Events Lead) and Bishal Banjara (Content Lead / Editor). Meet the team.

The purpose

The original purpose

NISC set out to give students in Nepalgunj a community where they can:

  • Learn technology with guidance, in sessions and together with peers;
  • Connect with other students who share the same interest;
  • Build real projects and put what they learn into practice;
  • Grow in confidence, skills and readiness for what comes next.

The growth

How the community developed

NISC’s growth so far can be traced through its milestones: the community was formed in November 2023, the first session was held on 31 August 2025, a second session followed, and in 2026 the first core team was formed. Each one is documented on Our Journey.

Step by step, NISC moved from an online group to organised activities and events, and opened this website as its digital home, where anyone can follow NISC’s events, updates and milestones. Next up: WordCamp Nepal 2027, which comes to Nepalgunj on 29–30 January 2027.

Today

Where NISC stands today

Today, NISC has successfully completed 2 sessions, has a seven-member core team leading its work, and has launched this website as its long-term digital home: a place to welcome new students and to record everything the community does.
